Existing literature on the implementation of RA 11861 is limited, with prior studies primarily focusing on related legislation, such as RA
8972. Addressing this research gap, our study aims to assess the awareness of RA 11861 among solo parents and evaluate their knowledge and utilization of the enhanced provisions offered by the act. Utilizing a descriptive-quantitative correlational research design, the study employed purposive and snowball sampling techniques to gather data from solo parents in selected barangays of Pagadian City. A structured survey questionnaire was used to assess awareness levels, with statistical analyses including chi-square tests and Pearson product-moment correlation to explore relationships and differences in awareness based on demographic factors. The findings reveal that solo parents in Pagadian City have a moderate awareness of RA 11861, with an average mean score of 2.52.
While general awareness is relatively high, specific knowledge about certain benefits, such as educational incentives and cash subsidies, is lower. The study found no significant differences in awareness levels based on gender, age, or marital status. However, educational attainment significantly influenced awareness, with educated individuals showing greater familiarity with the law.
Moreover, exposure to various information sources, including radio, newspapers, television, and personal networks, was significantly correlated with higher awareness levels. These results underscore the importance of diverse and targeted information dissemination strategies to improve awareness and ensure that all solo parents are well-informed about their rights and available support under RA 11861.
